About Laura

After graduating from UC Berkeley with a BA in Architecture, Laura practiced architecture for about six years building healthcare facilities.  Her floral journey started in 2003, when one of Laura’s best friends asked her to help with wedding flowers.  Laura’s exquisite designs had gained many compliments from the wedding which made her wonder what life would be like being an event floral designer.   Laura believes in one of Picasso’s quotes, “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.”  So she spent several years preparing for her new career by taking evening floral design classes and working under other seasoned floral designers in the weekends to gain experience, while keeping her full time corporate job.  In 2007, Laura had decided to leave architecture and start her own event floral design business.  She founded Poppy’s Petalworks.

In 2009, after passing a series of challenging floral design evaluation exams, she obtained the coveted Certified Floral Designer (CFD) designation from one of the world’s most known floral design organizations, the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD).  With her outstanding scores from the evaluation exams, she was also invited to become one of AIFD’s selective accredited members.  She was inducted into the AIFD in 2010.

When she is not arranging flowers, Laura enjoys life being the mother of her three lovely children – Ike, Elli and Lolo.  You will often find them at local ice cream shops and neighborhood parks in San Francisco!
